The SMA Staff

SMA HQ is run by a small team of part time staff:


SMA Executive Director
Strategy, Development, Finance, Written Communications, Editor of Cueline, Training, Events Trade Shows.  In stage management and production management since 1980

Works part time - usually on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday each week.

Andy began his theatre career in stage management working at (amongst others) Manchester Royal Exchange and Library Theatres, Orchard Theatre, Theatre Clwyd and Chester Gateway Theatre, before becoming a television stage manager in BBC drama.  He progressed to Line Producer in production at the BBC where he won his first producing credit along with being lucky enough to secure his first BAFTA and RTS Awards for a Drama coproduction with BBC Education and BBC Drama. He has subsequently produced many award winning dramas around the world, and has been lucky enough to add a further 2 BAFTAS and other recognition for his work.

Andy has never forgotten the skills he first learned as a main house and touring stage manager, which he has used and benefited from throughout a varied career in the arts and mediaHe is committed to supporting stage management and the value of the creative work that they contribute to UK Theatre and the British economy. He mainly works on SMA strategy, finances, training courses, communications, representing SMA on industry bodies, and providing advice and support for members, as well as answering members' specific enquiries and requests for advice and support. Andy also meets hundreds of University, FE and Conservatoire tech theatre and  stage management  students throughout the year at trade shows and by visiting their courses - representing and promoting SMA. His aim is to ensure that SMA Membership is good value, helpful and relevant to all stage managers in UK.


Membership and Office Administrator

Works part time- normally Monday, Wednesday and Friday 10am to 6pm each week

Debbie joins us from a strong background in administration and immigration matters, and supports members on membership matters, day to day training administration, and also at trade shows and SMA events

Debbie is pleased to be working in the arts and theatre sectors:  areas of interest to her over many years.

She looks forward to meeting and asisting members with their subs, memberships and helping to make the most of SMA membership for every member.


Accounting and bookkeeping services.

Luiza works with SMA on a freelance basis as required.

Luiza has ably supported SMA accounts and finances for a number of years, and continues to create and approve our accounts and provide management information on finances, as well as maintaining our books and assisting the ED and Board to ensure compliance with Companies House and other statutory financial and regulatory requirements.
