SMA Membership for Individuals

The SMA has four categories of membership available if you wish to join as an individual. Whether you are working professionally or if you would simply like to support the work of the SMA - or many options in between - please read over the four  categories below to find the right one for you. If you still not sure after reading the information on each application form, then please email the SMA Office here.

The joining process can be completed entirely online - email the application form to the SMA Office here and pay by BACS or by credit/debit card here. Alternatively see the other instructions on the application forms for others ways to join and pay. All instructions are on the forms.


SMA Professional & E Professional Membership

Professional Membership is open to:
Anyone who is working on the stage management team of a professional company and who is able to provide the names of two referees who are familiar with their stage management work professionally. One of the referees should be an SMA Professional Member. If you think you don't know a member to be one of your referees, then please contact the SMA Office and we will do our best to resolve this.

SMA E Graduate Membership

E Graduate Membership is open to:
Graduates of vocational stage management or technical courses at colleges which are accredited or recognised by DramaUK or are on an SMA approved course- please contact the SMA if you are unsure of your eligibility here. You can join as a Graduate Member if you are within 6 months of your graduation date - OR - up to six months after you have graduated.  You will need to provide the name of one referee who should be a course tutor who knows you and your work.

E Graduate Membership lasts for six months. When this period is nearly over the SMA will take you through the upgrade process to become a Professional (or Associate) Member. You may alternatively renew as a Graduate for one further period of six months  (only) .

SMA E Student Membership

E Student Membership is open to:
Anyone in full-time education.
What does this mean in practise? This means you may currently be training as a stage manager on a degree course, diploma, BTEC or post grad course or on another vocational technical theatre course, or it could mean you are in other full time further or tertiary education. If in doubt please contact the SMA Office for help here.
BE GREEN: Student Membership is an 'E' Membership - you will receive most SMA information via email and online including the quarterly SMA magazine Cueline

SPECIAL OFFER: TRIAL STUDENT MEMBERSHIP
Pay just £5 for three months trial membership - if you like what you see, join for a full twelve months and then get the £5 deducted from the £30 annual subscription fee.

SMA Associate & E Associate Membership

Associate Membership is open to:
Any aspiring stage managers not currently eligible for student or professional membership. One key benefit of this category is that the SMA can arrange a placement that can ultimately assist in enabling your professional membership. This membership is also open to anyone volunteering with an amateur theatre, anyone with an interest in stage management and anyone who would like to support the work of the SMA.
