SMA Prompt Desk meeting at PLASA

What should a Prompt Desk look like?

PLASA Show, Olympia : Tuesday 6th Sept 1300-1400

More importantly:  is it well designed, compliant and fit for purpose?

Stage managers and stage technicians come in many sizes, and types, and so do prompt desks!

Our Prompt Desk Working Group heard from Health and Safety specialists that prompt desks qualify as DSE (Display Screen Equipment) but a great many of the desks in use today fail to comply with the Display Screen Regulations 1992– and some are so poor that they cause actual harm to users -as our medical experts attested.

Following on from the successful  SMA  Working Group meetings in 2018-19, when we identified serious design flaws in many existing prompt desks, and sat down with all of the stakeholders to address what a really compliant and effective prompt desk would look like, we are now addressing how best to adapt the legacy desks in use on so many stages, and discuss how these can be made safer to use and more effective with minimal outlay – substituting random evolution for a new approach based on efficiency and ergonomics.

With industry experts
